Photo: Eastern Arctic elders get happy playing soccer

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

Elders from around the Eastern Arctic enjoyed a vigorous game of soccer in Cape Dorset Aug. 19, when Nunavik beat Nunavut 3-2. But Nunavut won 11-7 in a baseball game. Since the late 1980s elders from communities in northern Quebec and Nunavut communities like Iqaluit, Kimmirut, Cape Dorset and Coral Harbour have held such gatherings, usually every two years, to renew family ties and old friendships. This year's gathering was held this past week in Cape Dorset. (PHOTO BY JUSTIN NOBEL)
