Photo: Elisapee Ishulutaq, hometown celebrity

Renowned and award-winning artist Elisapee Ishulutaq, 88, became a member of the Order of Canada on May 7 and was formally congratulated and recognized by her home community of Pangnirtung during a ceremony on Nunavut Day. The hamlet presented Ishulutaq with several Greenlandic prints as gifts, as well as a framed portrait of her. Ishulutaq started drawing and carving in 1970, and has contributed more than 94 original images to Pangnirtung’s annual collection. (PHOTO BY SARAH MCMAHON)
