Photo: Ennadai Lake, 1955

This photo by Geert van Steenhoven shows Ennadai Lake in 1955, with the tents of some of the Ahiarmiut who called the area home. After enduring — and surviving — several disastrous relocations, the survivors and their descendants are moving ahead with their special claim against the federal government. “I want my clients to sit across the table from a senior minister or two to hear them say ‘I am sorry. What we did to you was wrong,” says lawyer Steve Cooper, who is working on their behalf. Read more about the progress of the special claim on Nunatsiaqonline.ca. (PHOTO COURTESY OF ITK)
