Photo: Famed Quebec pilot tells his story in Kuujjuaq

Robert Piché, the Quebec pilot made famous in 2001 when he safely landed an Airbus 330 in the Azores after it ran out of fuel, speaks to a crowd at the Kuujjuaq airport Sept. 11. Piché was invited to Nunavik to speak to a group of airport observers who are training in Kuujjuaq this week. His advice to them: communication is key. Piché also recounted the last harrowing 20 minutes of Air Transat Flight 236, when the plane’s engines shut down and Piché guided the aircraft and its 306 passengers to a safe landing.
