McGill professor Marianne Stenbaek holds the tenth and last volume of Voices and Images of Nunavimmiut at Librairie Paragraphe Bookstore April 13 in Montreal. Stenbaek along with co-editor Minnie Grey from Kuujjuaq, preserved stories, articles and thoughts from four magazines — mainly Makivik Magazine — that have been published over the past 40 years. At the book launch, Stenbaek spoke about the importance of the series.

Stenbaek along with co-editor Minnie Grey from Kuujjuaq, preserved stories, articles and thoughts from four magazines — mainly Makivik Magazine — that have been published over the past 40 years. At the book launch, Stenbaek spoke about the importance of the series. “I think they fill a void because in fact they tell a very large part of the development of modern Northern Quebec, Nunavik, since the James Bay agreement in 1975,” Stenbaek told a crowd of about 20 people. “We’re particularly proud because all the material could have just disappeared.” (PHOTO BY DAVID MURPHY)
