Photo: Final book in series documents Nunavimmiut stories, voices

McGill professor Marianne Stenbaek holds the tenth and last volume of Voices and Images of Nunavimmiut at Librairie Paragraphe Bookstore April 13 in Montreal. Stenbaek along with co-editor Minnie Grey from Kuujjuaq, preserved stories, articles and thoughts from four magazines — mainly Makivik Magazine — that have been published over the past 40 years. At the book launch, Stenbaek spoke about the importance of the series. “I think they fill a void because in fact they tell a very large part of the development of modern Northern Quebec, Nunavik, since the James Bay agreement in 1975,” Stenbaek told a crowd of about 20 people. “We’re particularly proud because all the material could have just disappeared.” (PHOTO BY DAVID MURPHY)
