Photo: Fuel spill in waters near Rankin Inlet

The department of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard is responding to a fuel spill that occured outside of Rankin Inlet late July 13 from this Woodward Group tanker. Residents of the Kivalliq community said a boat returning from hunting hit the vessel’s rubber fuel line which is used to offload fuel from the ship to shore. Neither DFO nor the ship’s owners has responded to requests for information this morning so the extent and volume of the spill is not yet known. Read more later at NunatsiaqOnline.ca.
