Terry Clifford, who served as a Progressive Conservative MP between 1984 and 1993, spoke to young leaders from Nunavut and the South at the Arctic Hotel Nov. 1 in Iqaluit. Clifford is the president of Global Vision — a non-profit group that promotes youth leadership in Canada. “By Sunday evening we hope to develop a voice for Nunavut, a homemade voice,” Young said. Amy Giroux, director of Global Vision and Junior Team Canada said another goal is to create the first ever Arctic Council International Youth Summit in the North, much like the youth G8 and G20 summits. “It brings young Canadians from across Canada to the North as well as the eight arctic council countries and their permanent participants,” she said. The summit would be slated for 2015, and if it happens, Giroux said it would be “groundbreaking.” (PHOTO BY DAVID MURPHY)
