Photo: GN begins consultations to revamp Mental Health Act

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

Mental health experts representing the Government of Nunavut held a forum Nov. 26 at Nakasuk School in Iqaluit to engage the public on proposed changes to Nunavut's Mental Health Act. That act, grandfathered into Nunavut law from the Northwest Territories, has never been updated. The GN is asking the public, through a series of community consultations, for input on a number of proposed changes to areas such as: patient rights, elder consultation, community treatment and integration of Inuit traditional knowledge. More on the evening's discussion later on Nunatsiaq News. (PHOTO BY STEVE DUCHARME)
