Bootleggers beware: Nunavut’s Department of Justice is drafting new legislation to create a forfeiture office that will be tasked with seizing funds and property associated with illegal activities and wants to know what you think about that. Following workshops in four other Nunavut communities to date, about 20 people attended a consultation at the Anglican Parish Hall in Iqaluit Dec. 2, to weigh in on the subject. The Government of Nunavut estimates about $10 million a year is spent on illegal alcohol in this territory.
