A pick-up truck sits abandoned in a snowbank near Iqaluit’s old cemetery Jan. 12. This truck has been stranded since the holidays; snowfall and snowplows keep burying it deeper and deeper in a snowbank. Temperatures across eastern Nunavut are higher than normal for this time of year as a weather system moves in to create high winds and blizzard-like conditions in numerous communities. According to Environment Canada, winds in Iqaluit will gust up to 90 km/h Jan. 12 and the forecast calls for rain as temperatures are expected to rise above zero Celsius. Residents in Pangnirtung and Grise Fiord felt the brunt of that wind last night with reports of damage and power outages. See story soon on nunatsiaqonline.ca. (PHOTO BY THOMAS ROHNER)
