Photo: Harper heads to Resolute Bay

Prime Minister Stephen Harper, shown here during his 2010 trip to the North, visited Resolute Bay today, accompanied by Nunavut MP and health minister Leona Aglukkaq, John Duncan, minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development and Joe Oliver, minister of Natural Resources. Harper’s visit to Resolute Bay was first scheduled for Aug. 22, so he could observe the response by military personnel at Operation Nanook to a planned simulation of a major air disaster. That was cancelled immediately following the Aug. 20 crash of First Air flight 6560 near the airport in Resolute Bay. Nunavut Premier Eva Aariak and other Nunavut government officials are also expected in Resolute Bay Aug. 23. (FILE PHOTO)
