Photo: High Arctic headed towards hot times?

When this giant camel roamed the High Arctic about three and a half million years ago, a boreal forest covered what is now Ellesmere Island and the concentration of carbon dioxide, a potent climate-warming greenhouse gas, was about 400 parts per million. On May 9, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced similarly high concentrations of carbon dioxide were recorded at its tropical observatory — a sign that the planet’s climate is on its way to warming significantly.
