Photo: Hundreds flock to ITK’s annual Arctic food fest

Can’t find caribou on Baffin? Well if you were at the National Art Centre in Ottawa March 10, you could have had it carved off the hip, with a little Saskatoon berry sauce on top. Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami’s fifth annual celebration of Arctic foods drew a who’s who of northern leaders, civil servants, politicians and lovers of gourmet country foods Tuesday evening. Nunavut MP Leona Aglukkaq along with Justice Minister Peter MacKay made an appearance as did Inuit Circumpolar Council International chair Okalik Eegeesiak and Makivik Corp. boss Jobie Tukkiapik. Sheila Watt-Cloutier sold out of advance copies of her soon-to-be-released book The Right to Be Cold and Nunavut Commissioner Edna Elias was seen sampling the deep-fried maktaaq.
