Photo: Igloo with crescent moon beside Iqaluit’s mosque

A snow crescent moon sits atop a snow house built beside the Islamic Centre of Iqaluit on the Road to Nowhere Jan. 21. In 2009, a society raised money to build a mosque in Nunavut’s capital — the first building of its kind in the territory. Only interior work remains to be finished before the centre is completed, according to a July 2015 update on the centre’s website. Locals estimate about 100 Muslims call Iqaluit their home.
