Photo: In memory of Nunavik’s relocatees

“Will I ever see them alive again?” That question is inscribed on the side of this monument overlooking the community of Inukjuak and Hudson Bay, dedicated to the community members relocated by the Canadian government to the High Arctic in 1953 and 1955. The monument, designed by Inukjuak mayor Siasi Smiler, was installed and unveiled at the community’s port in 2011, from where the Arctic exiles left some 60 years ago. (PHOTO BY SARAH ROGERS)
