Iqaluit’s new airport terminal is finally taking shape next to the North 40 industrial area of the city, as of May 7. Once finished, the new building will be three times as large as the current terminal. Its curved profile is not just for style — it’s engineered to prevent snowdrift accumulation. The Iqaluit Airport Improvement Project is the work of the territorial government in partnership with a consortium of private companies called Arctic Infrastructure Limited Partners. The $400 million-plus project includes repaving of all runways and aprons and upgrades to landing systems. Construction began in the summer of 2014 and is expected to be complete by the end of 2017.
