Iqaluit elder Inuapik Sageaktook opens the Nunavut tourism conference March 20 in Iqaluit, as Nunavut Premier Eva Aariak and other officials watch. Inuit culture remains an important draw for visitors to the territory, Aariak told the conference participants. “Nunavut is a very strong, unique tourist destination,” she said. “Very few destinations offer travelers such diversity and excitement.” Tourism can also generate revenues, sustain families through traditional and non-traditional activities, and “foster pride in the places we live,” she said.
