Photo: Jack Frost visits Sanikiluaq

Jack Frost was busy painting everything in sight March 12 in Sanikiluaq. When water vapour skips the evaporation stage and condenses directly into ice, you get snowflakes and frost, according to the California Institute of Technology, or Caltech, website. In the case above, where frost forms into large crystals, it’s often referred to as hoarfrost. Sometimes sharp, sometimes feathery, hoarfrost needs two specific ingredients to grow: cold temperatures and an ample source of water vapour. (PHOTO BY SARAH MEEKO)
