Brigadier-General Guy Hamel, at the far left, commander of the Joint Task Force North in Yellowknife, speaks Oct. 17 to members of the 3004 Nanook Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps in Cambridge Bay’s Luke Novoligak community hall. From Oct. 17 to 21, Hamel plans to visit several communities in Nunavut, including Kugluktuk, Cambridge Bay, Resolute Bay, Qikiqtarjuaq, Iqaluit, Pond Inlet, Taloyoak, Igloolik, Hall Beach and Baker Lake. In each community, Hamel will meet with Canadian Ranger, Junior Ranger patrols, and cadets. Staff and cadets of 795 Iqaluit Squadron Royal Canadian Air Cadets plan to host Hamel and Edna Elias, the commissioner of Nunavut, for a parade at Iqaluit’s Cadet Hall on Oct. 18 at 6:30 p.m. The event, which is open to members of the public, will include cadet award presentations, promotions, and the signing of a proclamation installing Elias as the “honorary Nunavut patron of the Air Cadet League of Canada.”
