Photo: Keeping the dogteam traditional alive in Clyde River

Joelie Sanguya was one of three dog mushers to compete in the annual Christmas/New Year’s dog team race in Clyde River Jan. 3. Three teams raced to a place called Majuallaruluk and back, which is about 50 kms total. The race is organized every year by Isuraqtujuq, a local committee that works to support local participation in the Nunavut Quest — an annual 500-km race from Arctic Bay to Igloolik — and to promote traditions and values around dog teaming. Amosie Sivugat took first place in the Clyde River race, followed by Jake Gearheard and then Sanguya. (PHOTO BY NIORE IQALUKJUAK)
