Could this be the face of the next Miss Canada Globe? Talia Maksagak hopes so. The 21-year-old from Cambridge Bay is a youth worker at the local wellness centre and this year’s recipient of the territory-wide Recreation Leader Award, given out by the Recreation and Parks Association of Nunavut. Maksagak told Nunatsiaq News recently she wants to participate in the pageant to raise awareness about Aboriginal issues and for her own personal development. But to participate, she’ll need to raise $3,000 to cover pageant fees as well find sponsorship for flights, gowns, jewelry and cosmetics.
