Photo: Kugluktuk students march against alcohol

Kugluktuk high school students, including Krista Mannilaq and Darla Evyagotailak pictured here, took to the streets for a second time Feb. 20 to speak out against loosening restrictions on bringing alcohol into their community. On Feb. 24, Kugluktuk residents will vote in a plebiscite to decide if they want to keep a restricted system, where a local alcohol education committee approves requests to bring in alcohol, or move to an open system. Local youth say that more alcohol in their community will bring social problems. “We have the best youth in the world,” reads a post on the high school’s Facebook page, “help keep them safe & vote NO on Monday at the complex.” (PHOTO BY JESSE AJAYI)
