Photo: Kuujjuamiut turn out for June 21

Kuujjuamiut Emma Kudluk, Ella White and daughter Louisa, Kitty Bedard and Harriett Saunders dress in their traditional clothing to celebrate June 21, National Aboriginal Day. Among the other activities organized by the local recreation committee Kuujjuaq Pingnguatitsijingit: a fishing contest for the longest/biggest and smallest fish, canoe paddling races, and games held outdoors on the beach. There was also a cake contest at the arena and a bingo with a $5,000 jackpot. At the June 21 festivities, many prizes were drawn, including plane tickets, one from First Air and one from Air Inuit, and many other prizes, such as camping equipment, electronics and bicycles.
