Photo: Kuujjuaq school gets an extreme makeover

Kuujjuaq's Jaanimmarik School continues its extreme makeover: with only half the name of the school remaining above the doorway, workers take of the siding on the front of the school, built 27 years ago. Part of the school received new blue and green siding last year. The work follows the 2011 discovery of two classrooms contaminated by mold. The presence of mold, tiny mushroom-like fungi which like to grow in moist environments, can cause allergic reactions, asthma, and other respiratory complaints. By June 3 the entire front of the school had been stripped of its former beige siding. (PHOTO BY JANE GEORGE)
