Photo: Kuujjuaq’s historic co-op store moves to bigger digs

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

Johnny Munick along with Tommy and Harriet Saunders (husband and wife) cut the ribbon — or rather string of tinsel — on the new Kuujjuaq Co-op store which opened with much celebration on Dec. 22. Many residents will remember the Fort Chimo Co-op which first opened in the 1960s but Kuujjuaq, as the town is now known, outgrew that original store which meant a larger, more modern store needed to be built. After the official opening, residents got to check out the new store and enjoy refreshments, free gifts, holiday store discounts and door prizes. (PHOTO BY ISABELLE DUBOIS)
