Keep your sticks on the ice! Debbie Strome, an instructor with Hockey North, offers some basic tips for eager girls and boys under age 13 in Arctic Bay last weekend. Strome is travelling in north Baffin this month to host hockey camps for aspiring players, young and old, as well as coaches. Hockey North sends trainers to different regions every year, said Hockey North board member Mike Courtney, to nurture the game, identify potential coaches and scout for competitive players. Strome's first stop on this tour was Resolute Bay, which just got a new arena. She was in Arctic Bay from Feb. 13 to Feb. 16 and is currently in Pond Inlet to offer hockey skills camps there. All the programs are offered free of charge. (PHOTO BY CLARE KINES)
