Nunavut government ministers, from left, Paul Quassa and Paul Okalik, joined editors Jeela Palluq Cloutier and Louis McComber for the launch their book Uqausivut Sivummuagutivut, or “Our Language, Our Leadership,” at the opening of the Inuugatta Language Conference in Iqaluit, Feb. 23. Published by Laval university in Quebec City and the Nunavut Research Institute, in partnership with Nunavut’s departments of Education and Culture and Heritage, the academic book describes the state of the Inuit language in Inuit communities throughout northern Canada and Greenland. The week-long conference, Feb. 23 to Feb. 26, featured presentations on the status, history and importance of Inuktut today, and its role in promoting social and cultural well-being for Inuit.
