If you were looking for a night of music that spanned the Eastern Arctic, South Carolina, and even as far as Trinidad and Tobago, then the Alianait Music Festival’s Piviarnaqtut Concert was a globe-trotting spectacle that you couldn’t miss. Roughly translated to mean “icons,” Iqaluit’s summer music festival saved some of its best talent for last, including July 2 performances from Looee Arreak, Elisapie Isaac, South Carolina “Gullah” soul-band, Ranky Tanky (above), and Toronto-based Caribbean group, KoboTown. The packed audience in Nakasuk Elementary School gym showered applause on iconic performers Arreak and Isaac, before abandoning their seats to dance along to the beats of Ranky Tanky and KoboTown. Alianait wrapped up its final day of festivities on July 3. See more photos on our Facebook page. (PHOTO BY STEVE DUCHARME)
