Meet Chris Fraser, a project development officer for SSI Micro who grew up in Iqaluit and now works out of the company's satellite teleport in Kanata, Ont. These are busy times for SSI. Last week, they received $35 million from Industry Canada to subsidize satellite internet costs over the next five years, and in addition, SSI will invest $15 million of their own on service upgrades. This week, they filed a submission with the CRTC aimed at asserting broadband as the basic, must-have telecom service that all Canadians must gain access to. Read more later on Nunatsiaqonline.ca.
