Photo: Maïna screens in Kuujjuaq

Kuujjuammiut gathered at the Katittavik town hall March 6 to see a preview showing of the film Maïna, a love story set during the time when Innu and Inuit met for the first time. Maïna was shot partially in Kuujjuaq during the spring of 2012. The movie will hit theatres all over Quebec March 21 but the film’s director, Michel Poulette, wanted to present it first to the people who helped in its creation. Poulette came to Kuujjuaq with Dominique Demers, the author of the novel Maïna, which inspired the movie, along with main character Ipellie Ootoova (currently attending Nunavut Sivuniksavut in Ottawa), who plays Natak, and Natar Ungalaq, who plays his father Tadlo.
