Meet Nunavut’s Wise Woman of 2015: on International Women’s Day, March 8, Eva Kakolak Avadluk of Cambridge Bay, centre, was honoured by Nunavut’s Qulliit Status of Women Council in Nunavut as the territory’s “Wise Woman” of 2015. Here, Avadluk walks with her two sons, Anthony and Ashlee Otokiak, who are blind, in the 2014 Embrace Life march around Cambridge Bay. Charlene Ukutak of Arviat and Joselyn Morrison of Iqaluit have received 2015 Outstanding Young Woman Award from Qulliit. “These awards are meant to honour women who are role models in their respective community and region and who provide volunteer, counselling and caregiver service to others,” says Qulliit.
