Angela Amarualik is crowned Miss Igloolik during the Christmas games. In the first round of competition, contestants answered questions such as “How would you improve our school system?” and “What is your long-term goal in life?” The second and last round was the talent round, in which Amarualik performed a song she had written for the Qilaut Inuktut songwriting contest. The Miss and Mrs. Igloolik competition was developed to give a voice to women in their community. Miss Igloolik will make public appearances throughout the year. She has already been invited to appear during the Return of the Sun celebrations and will be promoting healthy teeth, by giving out toothbrushes and toothpaste provided by the government's Health Department for the upcoming Health Expo in Igloolik.
