Susan Enuaraq from Nunavut Arctic College’s Inuit Studies program in Iqaluit fits a mitten onto the hands of Barry Rogers, the acting deputy chief at the Iqaluit fire department, on April 3. That’s when Enuaraq visited with three students who lost their homes in Iqaluit’s Feb. 26 fire to thanks members of the fire department with gifts of sealskin mittens that they made. Enuaraq thanked the firefighters “for missing your life for us,” and encouraged them to wear the mittens, made by Tina Muckpaloo of Arctic Bay, Veronica Emikotailak of Sanikiluaq, and Lena Dialla of Pangnirtung, so they can stay warm out on the land.
