Photo: Mohawk Girls, featuring Iqaluit actress, earns nominations

The Canadian-made TV comedy series Mohawk Girls is hitting its stride. The Aboriginal Peoples Television Network announced Jan. 20 that the series is nominated for four Canadian Screen Awards: best comedy series, best direction, and best writing, in a comedy program or series, and best performance by an actress in a leading comedic role — Brittany LeBorgne. One of the stars of the show is Iqaluit’s own Maika Harper, far right in this photo, daughter of Kenn Harper. Maika studied classical acting in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program at the University of Windsor and acting for film and television at the Professional Actor’s Lab in Toronto. Award winners will be announced at a series of galas held during the 2016 Canadian Screen Week which runs March 7 to March 13, says an APTN news release. (HANDOUT PHOTO)
