“I loved it, ” says Pudloo Arlooktoo about his first year at Nunavut Arctic College’s jewelry and metalwork program in Iqaluit. Arlooktoo said he’s had done some jewelry and metal work in high school, and thought it would be good to try it again. Now, one of his sculptures is on display, part of an exhibition of NAC student work, which opened May 26 at the Nunatta Sunakkutaangit Museum in Iqaluit. The birdlike figure (in the case, lower right), which closely resembles a ptarmigan with a face and hair from wispy whale baleen, represents transformation, Arlooktoo said. You can see the exhibit, which displays the work of eight students in the first and second year of the program, at the museum until June 17. (PHOTO BY SAMANTHA DAWSON)
