It’s not a fairy tale. It’s Hairy Tale Rock, Nakasuk Elementary School’s drama performance for 2015. On May 27 and 28, the cast and choir of the musical performed for adoring friends and family in the school gym. “One guy gave us $300!” a boy taking tickets at the door said to school principal Tracey MacMillan. MacMillan praised students, staff, parent volunteers and corporate sponsors — the Storehouse and Alianait — for making the play possible and giving kids something other than just academics to do at school. “Anything that can increase students’ attachment to school is beneficial,” she said. Donations, which last year reached about $750, help the school purchase new equipment every year, from lights, speakers and microphones to choir risers. (PHOTO BY LISA GREGOIRE)
