Photo: Nancy Mike is Aboriginal songwriter of the year

Iqaluit musician Nancy Mike of the Jerry Cans, pictured here with her baby daughter Viivi, picked up a Canadian Folk Music Award Nov. 10 for Aboriginal Songwriter of the Year. The award was for Mike’s work on the Iqaluit four-piece band’s first album Nunavuttitut. The Jerry Cans, known as Pai Gaalakkut in Inuktitut, just recorded a new album in Toronto last month.
