Photo: National Youth Arts Week in Iqaluit — a success

A participant in Iqaluit’s National Youth Arts Week displays a print of a fish that he created during one of the week’s popular workshops. This year’s edition of National Youth Arts Week in Iqaluit, which ran from May 1 to May 7, was a success, said Pascale Arpin, the community co-ordinator. “It was incredible, every single workshop was jam packed.” Workshop favorites included: t-shirt design, stop-motion animation and cupcake making. At the workshops, youth between 9 and 16 showed up. Most of them were between the ages of nine and 13. “At the end of the week, it just feels like everybody wins,” Arpin said. The big celebration took place May 7 — with a photobooth, food, and prizes for workshop participants, which included two Ipod touch devices. The only change kids wanted to see for next year? More space for workshops. (PHOTO COURTESY OF NATIONAL YOUTH ARTS WEEK)
