Advance polls are open today in Taloyoak and Kugaaruk for voters who want to cast their ballots early for their next MLA. The Netsilik byelection was called late last year after Jeannie Ugyuk resigned her territorial seat following a failed leadership review of her performance as family services minister. Five are vying for the job: Tars Angutingunirk, John Ningark, Emilino Qirngnuq, Wesley Totalik and Joseph Quqqiaq. Mobile polls are currently underway for voters with mobility challenges. Regular polls are open from noon to 7 p.m. today. Taloyoak residents can vote at the Boothia Inn and Kugaaruk residents can vote in the council chambers of the hamlet office. If you miss the advance poll, you can vote a week from today on Feb. 8, the day of the byelection, with the same polling stations and hours. (FILE PHOTO)
