Iqaluit’s water crisis continues, with no relief in sight for many in the city. On Aug. 11 the City of Iqaluit said it advises residents that “the emergency water shutdown is continued today. It’s expected to be off all day today.” The city released a boil water advisory late Aug. 10, for the following areas: buildings 157, 159, 161, 163 on Nipisa St. between Queen Elizabeth Way to Kuugalaaq St., affecting buildings occupied by the Department of Education, Ayaya Marketing and Communications, Quickstop, Video Shack, the Snack, the Nunavut Employees Union and the Qulliq Energy Corp. In this photo, a city worker feeds a hose into a hole dug during a planned utilidor shutdown this past July 27 in lower Iqaluit. Water service in the area has been on and off ever since, but mostly off. If you need water, you can call 222-2947 for delivery. But you should have your own containers ready to be filled. Water and shower facilities are also available at the Arctic Winter Games arena. Read more soon about the deepening water crisis on Nunatsiaqonline.ca. (PHOTO BY THOMAS ROHNER)
