Akullliq MLA John Ningark questioned Premier Eva Aariak, also Nunavut’s education minister, March 2 in the Nunavut Legislature about why plans to build a new high school in Repulse Bay have been put on hold. Ningark said the new school is much needed in a community that has seen a 26 per cent population
growth since the 2006 census. Aariak said that the education department had to cut costs for 2012-13, but plans to include the new school in its 2013-14 capital plan. In the meantime, Aariak promised two new portable classrooms will be built in Repulse Bay to alleviate space problems until a new school can be built. (PHOTO BY SARAH ROGERS)
