Louis Fortier, left and Tagak Curley, right, are recipients of the Governor General’s Northern Medal for 2011 and 2013, respectively. Here, the pair received their medals Oct. 3 at a ceremony at the Citadelle of Quebec in Quebec City. Fortier, who holds the Canada Research Chair on the Response of Arctic Marine Ecosystems to Climate Change at Laval University, has focused much of his work on the impacts of climate change on the Canadian Arctic. Curley, from Rankin Inlet, has lead a long career as a Nunavut politican, business and Inuit leader.
