After spending two months in their Ottawa classrooms, Nunavut Sivuniksavut students take a mid-term break during an annual November trip to Harris Farm in Quebec. It’s an opportunity for students to enjoy a change of pace, get some rest, fill up on home-cooked foods, including country foods, and deepen their cultural knowledge and skills. A number of resource people were invited along for the trip including Akinisie Sivuarapik and Evie Mark from Nunavik who taught students throat singing and story-telling, Mathew Nuqingaq of Iqaluit who taught students how to make jewelry and two Tuktoyaktuk performers, Tianna Elias and Colton Gordon-Ruben, who demonstrated Inuvialuit songs and dances.
