Willie Etok of Kangiqsualujjuaq speaks at this past week’s annual general meeting of the Nunavik Tourism Association in Kuujjuaq. Etok, one of NTA’s long-time board members, who used to run an outfitting camp, remains involved in tourism through the Kuururjuaq park and Torngat National Park development. To his right, sits Tommy Cain Sr. of Tasiujaq, NTA’s president and chairman of the AGM, alongside NTA’s vice-president Johnny May and NTA board member Jackusie Ittukallak of Puvirnituq. At the AGM, members heard presentations on various projects and from the local airlines. They also agreed to expand their membership to individuals with an interest in tourism in Nunavik. The goal: to foster more community-based tourism projects and increase the association’s membership. NTA members also honoured the late photographer Heiko Wittenborn with the 2012 NTA Regional Tourism Award. (PHOTO BY ISABELLE DUBOIS)(PHOTO BY ISABELLE DUBOIS)
