Photo: NTCL’s lost barge

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

A Northern Transportation Co. Ltd. barge drifts in waters off the coast of Alaska in this photo taken Oct. 24 by the United States Coast Guard. The 40-metre barge was last spotted west of Prudhoe Bay after it broke loose from its tug Oct. 20 en route to Tuktoyaktuk in the Northwest Territories. The U.S. Coast Guard expects the vessel will get stuck in the ice over the winter and plans to drop a GPS tracker onto the barge, which holds 3,500 litres of diesel fuel for its engine, but no cargo.
