Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. president Cathy Towtongie speaks to reporters June 11 in Alta, Norway. The Global Preparatory Indigenous Peoples Conference, hosted by the Saami Parliament in Norway, which began June 9, ends June 12. On June 11, as a round of regional drafts were presented to the conference, Aqqaluk Lynge, who heads the Inuit Circumpolar Council, spoke about the United Nations Permanent Forum for Indigenous Peoples, and other achievements of indigenous peoples, while Towtongie and Saami women added traditional knowledge about the environment, ecological systems, and cosmology for topics to be considered at the United Nations World Conference on Indigenous Peoples in September 2014.
