Photo: Nunavik rewards good tenants in Pivaliianiq draw

At Kuujjuaq’s town hall, Martha Greig, shown here with with master of ceremonies Tommy Sequaluk, draws the names of winners on June 8, Pivallianiq “housing pride day,” as Watson Fournier, the manager of the Kativik Municipal Housing Bureau and Bobby Snowball, the deputy mayor of Kuujjuaq, look on. Pivallianiq invited social housing tenants in six Nunavik communities (Kangiqsualujjuaq, Kuujjuaq, Kangirsuk, Kangiqsujuaq, Salluit and Kuujjuaraapik) to sign a “pact for better living” by keeping their houses clean and well-maintained. About 80 participants had a chance to win one of six prizes (a freezer, washer and dryer, six-months free rent, an all-terrain-vehicle and trip to see the Montreal Canadiens).
