Photo: Nunavut-born illustrator up for book award

Inuit artist Germaine Arnaktauyok, who illustrated the children’s bedtime book “Way Back Then,” above, has been shortlisted for the prestigious 2016 Canadian Library Association Amelia Frances Howard-Gibbon Illustrator’s Award. Born in Igloolik and now living in Yellowknife, Arnaktauyok has been drawing and making art for years. She is probably best known for designing a special edition two-dollar coin in 1999 to commemorate the creation of Nunavut. “Way Back Then,” written by Neil Christopher and published by Inhabit Media, gives readers an introduction to some Inuit myths through English and Inuktitut text.
