The president of Nunavut Arctic College, Michael Shouldice, speaks at the Nunatta campus spring convocation ceremony May 15. Twenty students received certificates and 14 received diplomas this year from various programs, such as environmental technology and pre-nursing. “The more we learn about the world around us, and use the skills that we acquire, the more we are empowered, the more we grow, the more we gain independence and we become self-sufficient — those are all Inuit values I’ve heard over the years,” Shouldice said. Paul Quassa, minister responsible for Nunavut Arctic College, also praised the graduates. “We all know that education is the key for the future for our healthy communities and families,” Quassa said. “It wasn’t easy, but you never gave up.” (PHOTO BY DAVID MURPHY)
