Photo: Nunavut arena gets disability audit from para-Olympian

Disability rights activist and accessibility auditor Marnie Peters, left, begins an audit of Iqaluit’s Arctic Winter Games complex May 28 with Iqaluit Councillor Noah Papatsie and his guide dog Xeno. Peters, who did another audit of Iqaluit facilities in March 2014, is back in town to continue examining safety and emergency preparedness plans as they relate to people with disabilities and to look at city facilities for accessibility issues. Her audit, she said, will likely include a list of recommendations, some of which are safety related and ought to be addressed right away and other, more long-term fixes that could be done when money and time allows. The former basketball para-Olympian is planning to visit Joamie School May 29 to talk about her life and to play some wheelchair sports with students. (PHOTO BY LISA GREGOIRE)
